Blah Aug 3rd race (Page 1/1)

It was a really hot day and my ICM was dying.
I stalled getting to the line in round 1 ... eventually got it started.

Lost power right after the launch in round 2 then it came back on ... then sputtered in turn 1 then came on super strong in turn 2 to the point that I hit close to 7500rpm in the middle of the back straight-away and actually shifted into 3rd going into turn 3.

I had forgot to put in octane booster when I had gassed up to I initially thought I blew the motor ... but after reading the codes and looking inside the cylinders...I believe it's just the ICM that failed. I was able to limp it home after some cool-down.

I watched this race on a different YouTube channel a few days ago, and I wondered what happened to you at the start of round one. The Toyota guy was nice enough to let you have a re-do, but I don't think his car had enough oomph to really belong on the track.

Are there any minimum requirements, or can anybody race anything that's not an actual hazard?

Car has to be registered. No convertibles unless you have a hardtop you can put on. It's generally a 'run-whatcha-brung' race.
No nitrous-oxide. Basic safety stuff.

I couldn't accelerate much the 2nd half of the first round. 20 second lap. Very bad.

In round 2, you can see the engine fall on its face .5 seconds after my wheels start spinning.

If you go to page 19 or so of my thread in the tech section you'll see my dynos where I assumed by a/f ratio pits and spikes after 4600rpm was due to a limited exhaust. I guess we found the real culprit.

I watched a few of the races on that track's channel - looks fun. I guess it's a traditional formula, but 1 lap on such a short track seems a little ridiculous to me. Still, looks fun anyway.

I can see you had a rough weekend but I liked seeing that 2ndgen Camaro get to the finals.
That AWD Talon/Eclipse must be unbeatable for most people in the short launch to turn 1, and after that it's hard to overtake anybody.

Why are there so few older Mustangs? Seems like there'd be as many Foxbodies as the 3rdgen F-Bodies, but I don't think I saw any at all.

fox bodies are some of the worst handling cars ever made and they are relatively light so they don't launch well...
There's been a couple that are decent over the years but it always involves a custom suspension which they rarely do.

This is considered the toughest track around. People come from all over to race here...and the prize isn't even worth it. It's just for the sport of it...basically.
