RUN FOR THE HILLS # 29 RESCHEDULED (Page 1/1)
fierofool SEP 30, 09:31 AM
The rescheduled date is October 18-20. Arrive on the 18th, Run For The Hills on the 19th, and depart on the 20th.

I have arranged another block of 10 rooms, but due to the seasonal rate changes, the nightly charge is $150 plus taxes, per night.

The hotel does not have phone service at the present time. It could be back up and running at any time, but there is no projected date as of today, September 30.

To make your reservations, you can try the hotel number at 828-349-9000. If you are unable to get through, then call Jessica, the hotel manager at her personal cell phone. She only has service through her WiFi when she's at home, so if she doesn't answer, leave a message that you are with Georgia Fieros, and she will get back to you when she returns home.

All but one road on our planned route is open, but there is a bypass for that one. That area of NC didn't suffer the damage that the Asheville area suffered.

Made my reservations today.

I spoke with the hotel manager on Wednesday morning. The hotel phone service is restored, and they are taking our reservations with no cut off date to make them.

UPDATE FROM Tail of the Dragon THE ROAD IS OPEN.
DETAILS IN POST BELOW.Okay just got confirmation from our photographers on the scene that 129 is clear and back open. Again as of this morning there are electronic signs diverting trucks around from both sides and officers in position on both ends to ensure that the road stays passable. Thanks everyone for your help and hopefully we can put this behind us now.

IMPORTANT UPDATE: US129 and the Cherohala Skyway are open with no damage from the hurricane. The area with damage and flooding is east of here. Visitors headed this way should carefully plan their route to get here, but all of our roads and businesses near the Dragon are open.

I ran the whole route today. There are no signs of ever being a storm in the area. There were signs of less than a dozen fallen trees, but that's normal. All our roads are open and in excellent condition. I don't know why NCDOT is showing US129 south of Robbinsville as closed. There are no signs that there might have been a problem in that stretch.

The weather channel shows clear and cool temps in the morning warming up in the afternoon. Looks to be a good weekend.
