I got to meet Raydar today!!! (Page 1/2)

I drove up to North Georgia earlier this morning. Stopped by my parents last night, stayed the night (The Villages), and left from there to North Georgia... a good 6.5 hour drive, not too bad, and picked up a 1987 Fiero GT engine and cradle that I bought from FieroFool.

Raydar was gracious enough to hold it for me until I could make the trip up there and pick it up! While I was there, I even got a ride in his Ed Parks 4.9 Powered 88 Fiero GT. What a fantastic sound, and damn... I miss being in a Fiero with power.

It was great to meet you Raydar, thanks again for your hospitality and helping me get all of that into the truck!!!

I got home about an hour or so ago, and now the fun begins...

My plan is to clean up the cradle, get it mounted like I did for my daughter's engine, and then build up my 3.4 and slowly swap over all the parts from this motor onto my 3.4. This 2.8 though is amazingly complete... literally has every little teeny tiny bracket that most people remove or leave off when they replace something. So I plan to give it a quick once over with the pressure washer, and then take lots of pictures just to document it for those "anyone know what this goes to," posts.

The 2.8 block... I'll probably have my daughter rebuild it. New rings, new bearings, new seals and give it away to a member at cost.

Thanks again!!!

I really appreciate Steve (and Tammy) storing and transferring the assembly to you. All my other arrangements went south with the passing of Scott Brown. I don't have a lift to get it off my trailer and onto your transport.

I am sorry that I couldn't be there to help and meet you. I was actually in North Carolina and Tennessee surveying for any road closures and obstacles in the way of the September 18-20 Run For The Hills.

Raydar has always been one of the most helpful members here to me over the years, even though we have never met. Life is short, it is great to do nice things for total strangers. Once we are gone, it is our kindness that others will remember the most.

No question....Steve is one of the "good ones"!

HAGO!

Wow guys! Thanks for all the "flowers".
I've received a great deal of help from you guys, and lots of other folks here, too. I'm happy to do whatever I can, when I can. (Which is really not too frequently, these days.)
Storing the pieces was truly not an issue. Just left the engine attached to the cherry picker, and rolled it to an out-of-the way corner.

I'm happy that your ride home was uneventful.
But keep your eyes open (all of you in FL). I'm hearing rumors of a CAT 5 at landfall, now. (Read it on the internet. It's gotta be true. Right?)

Well, I really appreciate it Steve, and it's the "community" of Fiero people that make it that much more fun, otherwise... it's just a car, and what good is an "object" if you can't share the enthusiasm for said thing with others!

@FieroFool, I feel bad for Scott Brown, I heard the story and so tragic of his passing. He seemed like a really cool guy...

Yeah, I am supposed to be in Orlando next week for Fabtech trade show... I have a bad feeling that anyone with half a brain will cancel their flights and the show will be a dud. Plus, Orlando has no beach, no bikin clad honeys.. May as well stay in depressing Canada!

We were talking about that the other day. He was on here in the previous millennium! Haha...

I THINK I was too. The reason my name is crazy looking, is because I'd forgotten my password for the original account, which would have just been 82-T/A. I'd also created another one, which was 82-T/A [At Home] because while I was at work, I wanted to ask some quick questions, and wrote my password down at work, and then created one at home because I wanted to ask questions when I got back to my apartment as a 19/20 year old... haha!

We were both originally on Peter Zurich's Fiero Mailing List, which I think was through Yahoo Groups (or whatever it was called at the time).

I found my original user name!!!

Oh man... just looked at all my old posts from the original account. They are so cringe to say the least.
