im locked out of one site because it required a password change.unfortunately to change the password they want to send a code to your email and i no longer have access to that email address.

Passwords are becoming a joke.
The boilerplate advice tells you to use a different password on every site. Yeah, sure.
I started out by just having a few passwords. The simplest was for sites like this, where nothing serious would happen if the account was stolen.
But as each site adopted their own different quirky rules, they diverged into way too many variations. I can't remember them, and I stopped trying.

I seriously doubt anybody actually remembers different, complicated passwords for 100 different web sites. And personally I'm not going to let "Google" hold the keys to everything, but I know that's been made into an option.
As password rules become increasingly complicated, people are pushed into writing/typing/saving them somewhere. This creates the illusion of "higher" security while the passwords are actually more exposed because nobody is just keeping them in their head.

Hopefully most people do remember just one very good password and use that to encrypt the text/spreadsheet file they're saving all their other passwords in, but I'm sure a lot of people keep it in plain text.

If you post your passwords here, you can "favorite" this thread, and find them "lickity-split"!

What really irks me is the accounts which force you to change your password every X months. I have drilled into my wife and kids to keep their information in an Excel spreadsheet that is password locked and not out in the Cloud. As far as I know, no one listened to me ...

lol

I like sites that use Multi-factor authentication and text you the code.
You can also use a third party authentication app, it sends the app a request and the app displays a code.
I have had good luck with KeePass to keep my passwords safe
I would not trust an app on your phone but you do you
