I've been holding out for a Fiero for a little while now, but its not looking too good. A lot of whats for sale in the northeast is overpriced rusty junk. I'm looking for a non rusty and good condition car, preferably with the engine swapped (don't care what it is) and must be 4/5 speed- and I don't care if the paint sucks or it needs minor finishing up, I just want something I can finish up and start using as a daily. BUT- I haven't come across anything like this.
So... I've been looking into other cars, the main other one I'd like to own at one point would be a 5 speed SC300- but these are also hard to come by. I just want something 5spd and rwd, and for it to be fun to drive.
Moving on, this car has been for sale for a few weeks locally. I don't know much about VDubs, and nothing about Corrados. But it seems like it could be a decent buy, what do you guys think? (I know its not RWD, but the market here sucks... And I always liked the look of these).

Google them and get information, also Edwards and Consumer Guide Autos. I was considering them when I was looking for my Z-24. There hard to find, I probably would have one if I had come asross a fair deal on one. Dennis
I was a machinist, a tax provider, not a tax taker.

I'd pass on it. Something is wrong with the electrical system. For the most part, batteries don't just die because the vehicle isn't being used. My bike wasn't started all last winter (and wasn't put on a charger) and it still fired right up in the spring. In the summer, I drive my truck about once a week. It sits for 3-4 days at a time and it fires right up. Electrical issues like the "small power drain" he's talking about can be a real b***h to track down. Alot of stuff done by the seller. Unless you know him, you don't know if he's done good work or not. Corrados are neat little cars but a 22 year old Corrado is still old, VW or not. Find yourself something nice and STOCK. If you want a sporty VW, try to find a 10 year old VW GTI. They're sporty (although they're FWD), good on gas, reliable and won't break the bank.
If you're looking at $3000 cars, you need to be a bit less picky.

Vega... That was pretty useless. The best and most unbiased information comes from forums.

That did stand out to me, and I know electrical can be a nightmare to try and track down the issue. But- its had a lot done to it, and no I'm not looking for something stock. I don't want a GTI or any other VDub for that matter, Corrados have always caught my interest which is why I asked in the first place.
No I think I'll retain my picky-ness thank you . I can and will spend more on something that I deem is worth it, you can have one hell of a Fiero for 3 grand (just not in the northeast ).

I heard they eat brakes. I was looking at one while in colloge and the guy that had one said no matter what he did it just went through brakes way to fast. I talked to several other people and hear the same thing. Thats a nice hot air intake for a turbo. That many mods that car has been driven hard.

They had a short production run and are German = $$ replacement parts are expensive. On the other hand, they are the best handling FWD car I've had the fun of driving.

From what I'm reading on the corrado forums, its not looking too good. Basically like having a FWD fiero thats 2x more expensive to keep running.
Sigh, I wish there were some nice fieros around here

I love Corrados, but they are expensive to keep up, and arent really worth it to me... and also old. Would be a fun base though to modify from!
I personally like Subarus. Cheap to maintain for the most part, AWD, make decent power, have a decent sound, and get good gas mileage. They also have an engine that can last for hundreds of thousands of miles if kept properly, and still make 300 crank HP.
But, about the Corrado, I don't know much since I havent seen them too much. Isnt the Scirocco the model before the Corrado? I always wanted to get a Scirocco cause I think they look like rally cars.
Problem with buying modded cars... who knows if the person did it right or made a nightmare for you to fix and make safe... or make it work properly.

I understand and agree about the issues regarding buying a modded car, but so far I haven't been bitten in the ass. My sleeper grand prix that I picked up in march has a lot done to it, and its held up very well for the $$$ I paid for it. Its just a boring car, quite fast though.
I don't like Subies, because the only nice ones they make are the WRX/STi and the last gen Legacy (which is still expensive as hell). From what I see, only douchebags flock to WRXs and STis, not to mention almost all of them are flogged to hell and back. They don't seem all that cheap to keep running either, as I've seen a lot of people dumb serious cash into them. Nice looking cars, but ehh.. I also despise the exhaust note from them.
If I can't find a nice Fiero, its looking like:
SC300 3rd gen Fbody thats 5 speed. Which automatically rules the Irocs out , or 4th gen LS1 T-56 cars- which I think the build quality is just horrible on. (But LS power yum). Mark III Supras? There are 99-04 Mustangs which I enjoy the styling on, but are dogsh!t slow and insurance premiums too much in comparison for the performance offered.
DSMs/3000GTs are way too unreliable from what I hear and $$$ to keep running.
Anything else to consider thats in a similar category?

Thanks for calling me a D-Bag! :P j/k, but yeah I got a WRX ;P And so far the prices on the WRX I seen for common repairs, are cheap cheap. The timing belt is a bit expensive at 400 bucks for the kit, but that is all really.
For other cars, pick and chose. Eagle Talons are nice, AWD, and are just Eclipses, so they are fun to drive! Mercedes C Class coupes are fun and not TOO pricey if you get an early model. 90s Mercedes SLs are EXTREMELY fun to drive, and have some NICE power to them, though are a little bit pricey, probably on your high side on price.
Nissan 180SXs can be modded well and be fun and quick. Lets also not forget the Toyota Celica, and Toyota MR2.
Make sure you got he money to run the car, so gas mileage should be a concern if you will be driving this car. I mean, I have 5 cars, my Camaro does not get driven much because it gets a whole 8mpg city. That... gets expensive... fast.
