That 242 is drop dead gorgeous.
Any cheap Subie's in your neck of the woods? (Not sure where Whitmore Lake is)
Something like this could be turbo'd for pretty cheap and would be a great rally car. http://nmi.craigslist.org/cto/3457577649.html

Now trucks that's a good idea, good prices too! Mustang turbos? Good idea also might be hard to find cheap. Those volvos are slick, and I love subbies but I need rwd, so again anything around 2500

Volvo 240s, 740s and 940s are all RWD. They didn't switch to FWD until the 850 models.[This message has been edited by OKflyboy (edited 12-29-2012).]

You could probably mod the subaru diff/trans to go just RWD.

Go find your self a late 80s turbo dodge. Daytona, Shadow, minivan, k-car whatever...you can score one for well under a grand, they are turbo and 5spd. Easy to fix, parts are cheap and there is decent forum support as well.

X2 this. If you can find a shadow, Daytona, or even a Spirit R/T you'd be golden. Ive seen a few Spirit R/Ts drive deep into the 13s and have heard of them even going 12s. Not the prettiest things to stare at in the world, but they are performers for sure.
Edit: Also, you could look for an omni/horizon turbo that'd be light and cheaper to boot.[This message has been edited by HoMiE_TeLeFrAgGeD (edited 01-03-2013).]

Those are all front wheel drive.
I still say the 240SX would be the easiest car to learn to drift in. After you get used to it, you could swap in an SR20DET turbo engine. Or buy one with it already installed, the swap is so common now you can probably find one out there cheap.
An RX-7 turbo would be another good option, but the prices on those has been going up quite a bit.

Try a Mazda Miata.
I looked at a few last year for a family member. You can find many in the $4000-6000 range that are in very good condition for thier age. They handle exceptionally well and have a huge aftermarket chain to supply the parts. The cars I drove had about 55,000-80,000 miles and rode very nice, very tight. They also have a large club network to supply advice on racing and maintanence. Engines and trans are bullet proof.

I second the Mazda but if you want to keep your dignity call it an MX5!
They're a fantastic platform for building whackiness on, I've always wanted to go with an early MX5 and throw in the FE-DOHC from the MX6 and a Toyota SC14 supercharger. But you decide your own level of involvement with an MX5 - you can run it stock and just have fun with a convertible, or you can go hectic with mods. Your call.
