i can see using an older supra as a donor for motor and rear suspension .they were incredible cars , way ahead of their time .

I debated on an rb26 or a 1jz or 2jz but I have a low mileage 3800sc, harness etc and going to have to clearance the trans tunnel anyways, I can cut the inlet to the sc and weld in a u-bend and make a mount for the throttle body...plus the t5 can be had pretty inexpensive. and use the r200 or a narrowed ford rear end. leaning more towards the ford solid axle and 4 link,,, ------------------ 87GTseries 1 3800sc (7.597 @88.53 1.579 60ft) (series II swap in progress) 85GT Northstar/ 4t80e 86GT 3800 n/a Northstar Rebuild

getting new project to shop, I decided I am going to try and find an L33 or some other Gen III and use the mustang T5 since it is much smaller than the T56.------------------ 87GTseries 1 3800sc (7.597 @88.53 1.579 60ft) (series II swap in progress) 85GT Northstar/ 4t80e 86GT 3800 n/a Northstar Rebuild

Just an FYI but many years ago there was a guy at my work who was selling a 1st Gen Spitfire. I still remember taking it for a test drive. He had put a Capri 2600 V6 in it. He said it was an easy swap. I did not buy it because it was kind of a crudely done swap. Kit

I have since decided to go with an LS ( or some variation of ) swap, the plan Is a narrowed ford 8.8 and a mustang T5 with the LS. The T56 is too large and heavy and I know the T5 will be the weak point but is a lot smaller than the T56 and the car is pretty light (hoping it will hold up) . the frame is tweaked a bit on the pass side and need to get it on frame machine before I go further with new panels, so I am starting on the rear half of the body work this weekend. I have a little bit of work left on the N* fiero but it drives great just trans slips a bit when it kicks down in passing gear, I know it could be the torque converter but have read it could be issue with cracked shift solenoids. It is all original with 30k miles,I will work on it just kind of tired of it and want something different but will fix it . Just happy I will be able to drive it this summer. The triumph will be a long term project I'm hoping to complete in app 1.5-2 years no hurry here. will fully document build, I started tearing down car and been taking pics but will wait to post any till some progress has been made. No one wants to see pics of rust, there is plenty of it..... nothing all new panels will not fix.------------------ 87GTseries 1 3800sc (7.597 @88.53 1.579 60ft) (series II swap in progress) 85GT Northstar/ 4t80e 86GT 3800 n/a Northstar Rebuild

Looks like a fun build, best of luck. I agree on the T5/8.8 driveline. I doubt you'll put really big tires on the back of it like the blue car. Leave them as the weak link, and you'll be good for many miles.
One question sparked by the all Ford driveline. Why not a 5.0? Or similar Ford motor? I just though the 5.0 would be more compact, and allow easier mounting. Just not that big a Ford guy?

Actually my daily is a Mustang, reason for gm engine ...... I can get a 5.3 or 4.8 pretty cheap, I wanted to do an lq9 6.0 but they have really gone up in the past few years. the 4.8 would be plenty 285/295 and can get one for around $300 then go with an ls intake, I really have a long way to go before ready for engine and trans so I might change mind by then. I was going to use the 3800sc I have but there is a lot of things like the water outlet on the rear of the engine. Plus I believe the resale value will be more with the newer gm engine, the T5 is mainly cost and size , they can be had a lot less than the t56 weight a lot less and physically smaller..[This message has been edited by jb1 (edited 03-11-2014).]
