There is one rust hole on the frame near the rear seat. I have some people that can weld really well and a friend that works for a body shop that does collision repair so I can find ways to fix the frame if its worse than we think. There is a lot of scaling but pressing with the screw driver and taps with a hammer found no other weak locations right now. Once weather breaks plan on doing a inch by inch sanding and painting with por on the frame and find out if there's any more damage. I am thinking that if I can get the frame solid for around 1500 total i am still 1500 under that value of the vehicle. Which is kinda nice to be starting on something with a 0 initial cost. My mother loved this thing and the sentimental reasons alone are a reason I want to restore its damage and get it tip top. She never off roaded it because it was here daily driver for 10 years. I know she always wanted to go trail riding. So once I can get it to that point be nice to take her out for a weekend on the trails in Michigan with my buddy and his crew.

Man, I wish somebody would leave me one of those! Just a thought for further research...POR has (had?) no UV protection and thus breaks down with exposure to sunshine(at least that how it was several years back). So, you might look into it or only drive at night.

yea i use a por like product called kbs. its uv safe but I typically spray a standard paint over it as well for added protection. Talked with the supplier its really nice dosent need anything special to top coat is thinner than por goes twice as far and is same makeup. According to them it was designed by a partner in the creation of por and when he went his separate ways he adjusted things he felt where short comings in the product.

Not much. What do you need to know? Jeep door assemblies are pretty basic.

Is the assembly clip deal metal or plastic? I'd try a boneyard before I ordered one from some place. Interior assembly should be the same on the YJs and TJs. The exterior assembly might be the same back as far as the late CJs. You got a pic of the damage?

What clip are you referring to in this pic? The top rod goes to the lock button and the bottom rod goes to the inner door handle. It looks like the bottom clip isn't fully seated in the latch assembly. Flip the clip down then pull the rod out. You might just need to push the clip back in the assembly. Push the rod back in the clip and flip it back up to capture the rod. If the clip is actually broken, they're pretty generic and not make/model specific. Take it to any dealer (Jeep or otherwise) and ask them for a replacement. Probably less than $3. Maybe 1/2 that if you can find one at the auto parts store.
