hey guys i have a 1986 chevy cavalier convertable that needs fluid for the hydralic top it says to use type a transmission fluid anyone know where i can find some.

I believe some parts stores like Napa still sell Type A. I think you can even get it at some Wal-Marts if you can stand shopping there. Otherwise I would try ordering it online.
One of the first hits I got typing in "buy type A transmission fluid" but I would look around before ordering:

thanks yeah napa no longer carrys it nor does walmart (love my local walmart) starbright site doesnt show anything around me... ok guess i will just have to go online. thanks greater fang

Good old Dexron ATF will work fine (it IS the replacement for type A) Unless you really want to run a labeled type a in there, which like you have found out is getting harder to find.

yep it is just had to order a case of type a threw amazon. i dont want to take a chance of destroying the pump or cuclenders there very costly

The diff types are important in a transmission because they operate at different temps. In your convertible top pump, any hydraulic fluid is fine...heat is a non issue. Any transmission fluid, power steering fluid or hydraulic pump fluid is just fine. Just dont use brake fluid as it will attack plastic and rubber parts.
