Seen a new ad on tv about the new Scion 'sports car'. They tout that its the first car to utilize the 'boxer' engine technology of horizontaly opposed cylinders....WTF !!
Far as I know, Porsche, Ferrari, Volkswagen, and Corvair have all had them for many years......???

They collaborated with Subaru on the project (the cars are virtually identical) and thus it has a Subaru engine in it.

My point being this isnt a new engine. In fact it dates back to 30s Volkwagen. In aircraft this engine has been around even longer than that. Cessnas still use the same basic engine since 1942, as well as Piper Cubs.

They both worked on the engine design, ground up.
It is "new," since it hasn't been in a previous model before

So, does it use a "Subaru" design and parts (not wanting to argue-just curious)?

The commercial says it's the first boxer engine with some specific fuel injection. I thought the same thing when I heard it the first time but after a long pause they add the part about the FI system.

Subaru BRZ = Scion FR-S
I love how Toyota is playing up the heritage of the FR-S, relating it to the RWD AE86 and other Toyota non-Supra sports cars of yester year... while using a Subaru powerplant and the Scion name. LOL
A Subie without AWD and a corporate rebadged Toyota with an outsourced drivetrain. What tangled webs we weave.
I still want one... [This message has been edited by carbon (edited 07-23-2012).]

Well boxer engined Porsches also have FI.....? There ad tries to make this sound like a revolutionary new engine like the Wankel when in fact its 90 year old tech with fuel injection.
