hey all, ive been a fiero nut for a few years on here, but recently acquired a new toy that deserves some interest in the internal combustion engine field. it only has two wheels tho. yep, motorcycles... i got a kawasaki kz550H gpz. one fast little eighties bike. its fun, my first bike, and id thought since there were no motorcycle threads on pff, maybe id start one in their other threads...
well, its red, four cylinder, chain driven, six speed, and you guessed it fun!.
maintenance calls for anything from 10w 40 to 20w50 motor oil, i have 10 40 in it now, and it runs good with that. new chain, realized afterward that i should have bought an "o-ring chain" which has small o rings inside the links that holds the oil inside the moving parts of the chain. making it last way longer. but its past experience now. and i have a new front and rear sprocket, new tires dunlop cheap special highway tires  they do decent on grip and so far ok on life but i only have about 1500 miles of driving on them. speaking of miles, i have only 16k on the bike itself!!! not bad for a free bike eh?.... oh i forgot that part too! it was free!!! :-) as was both of my fieros... lol

I would really swap out that chain and keep it taken care of. Spend a half hour each week and clean and wax the chain. Congrats on the free bike. Check all rubbers for dry-rot.

oh, sorry, i did swap out the chain. i didnt know what to buy, so i bought a regular chain. its ok, but oring chains last longer. thats all. and i put the two tires on myself... i didnt clarify. but yeah. i would like to hear of anyone elses bikes if they want to share

I have an 86 Yamaha Maxim X. I bought it for what most Harley guys pay for their hard-bags. It's shaft drive so there's no chain to worry about and no stupidity on my part trying to pop wheelies. My only complaint is the constant maintenance that I have to do on 4 carbs-next bike will have fuel injection. Post up some pictures?

I ride a 2001 Suzuki Bandit 1200.
I bought it brand new "out of the box" in the spring of 01. Still on the factory chain... Chain maintenance goes a long way!
Only real issues i've had with the bike is the carbs gumming & clogging up. Only started to have this issue when we were forced into the ethanol blended fuel.
Also - in an attempt to get better than 30mpg I was keeping the RPM’s low & not accelerating hard. Didn’t really see any improvements in the MPG but gained a carbon problem & sticking valves. Lesson learned: For the health of the motor its good to ride it hard!

oh, well at least im not the only one trying to solve the alien technology of carburetors... yeah... ill see if i can get some pic up after i get home from work... definitely tho my next bike will be a fuel injected 600
