I was at an Oasis outside of Chicago this spring where i met a Father and Son fresh of the plane from Australia. They were super chatty and very inquisitive. I think we were the first Americans they had a chance to talk to after they arrived. They were farmers here on there way to a John Deere factory to buy a new combine. Were got around to talking about cars and I told them about my L67 Fiero and he got excited and started talking about his Holden Commodore. I had no idea what he was talking about at the time, but now I do.
If any one has one, share a pic. Tell us more about these cars.------------------ Project Genisis Lo Budget 3800SC swap

Is Pontiac going to live on through Holden with the G8?

Holden and Commodores have been around for decades. The new Caprice(?) cop car is essentially a next gen G8 with different skin. Not available for public consumption. Yet. That may change. There have been rumors of a Holden Ute being imported and sold as an El Camino.
I work with an Aussie. I told him that "You guys get all the good cars."

I thought the new caprice is different from the g8. its based on the statesman car. its longer and wider than the g8 was. The reason i heard was cops could not get in and out of a g8 fast enought with there belt. [This message has been edited by Tstang429 (edited 08-09-2012).]

I used to sell them new. They are a huge cult car in Australia due to the Holden Vs Ford car race bathurst 1000 http://www.bathurst1000.com.au/ I have a collection of street commodore magazines on modified commodores if anyone is super keen can mail off a few especially if you have anything to trade.

No.
After shutting down Pontiac, GM's attempt to get rid of some of the remaining parts was to sell "Pontiac" badged Holdens in Australia as a special edition. Not as "Pontiacs", still as Holdens. Pontiac as we knew it is gone and isn't living on anywhere in the world.
The G8 is a Holden Commodore, and is a pretty sweet car. There were three versions offered in the US: a V6, a GT (6.0L V8), and GXP (6.2L V8). The manual could only be had in the GXP trim. GTs seem to be going for 20-25k at the moment, depending on the mileage/mods. I've no idea about the current prices for the V6s or GXPs.
Here's a nice pic of our G8 get together on Woodward Tuesday night:

Perhaps, but they sure pay a pretty penny for them, too. A similarly equipped Commodore in Australia was about 50k new, if I recall correctly. I think G8 GT stickered around $32k.------------------ Nick www.naskie18.com GoogleTalk: naskie18 AIM: naskie18
