Bought a new (1993) Toyota 4x4 this weekend for $900. Needed a truck to move some stuff, and it was a good price so I jumped on it, that and my card was overdrawn so i couldn't rent nothing. Figured i could clean it up and resell it to get my money back and then some. Drove it all day Saturday and Sunday without issues - roughly 600 miles, it was a busy weekend. Went to eat on Sunday night, got into the truck pushed in the clutch pedal shifted to reverse and let out the clutch. Nothing, nada, zilch. Wouldn't even move, tried another gear and nothing. Funny thing, I can shift the transmission and feel all the gears, while the truck is running without touching the clutch pedal
I know the transmission has to come out either way, but should I be looking at the clutch, or something like the transmission input shaft, or maybe something inside the transmission itself? Didn't hear any funny noises, but I pulled the inspection cover (what a useless thing) and can't see nothing, just the flywheel. Previous owner used it as an off-roader so I am assuming the clutch is done.
EDIT: maybe not with the truck in gear, it rolls with little to no resistance. That can't be right, 1-5 and reverse, and 2 high, 4 high, 4 low. It shifts into all the gears on the transfer case and transmission, but nothing, acts like it is in neutral. Crap.[This message has been edited by GreenPlatypus (edited 08-20-2012).]

hmmm, I would check the shifter linkages... is there any burning smell or anything like that? It seems weird that it was fine and then bam, it isn't working at at. Maybe the shift lever in the tranny is broken?

Usually a worn clutch will let you know by smell and slippage. I'm thinking it's something else.

to be honest that almost sounds like you snapped an input shaft on the trans.
