2k LeSabre 4T65E transmission problem (Page 1/1)

Got a 2k LeSabre with a tranny problem. Starting out cold the trans will shift fine, after a few miles of driving it will start to slip and quickly loose all forward gears and reverse. Letting it sit and cool for 10-15 min will restore normal operation until it gets warm again and then the same thing happens. Did some looking online but didn't find a whole lot of info. There was some mention of the pressure control solenoid failing bu that seemed to produce harsh shifts more than slipping. Has anybody had this issue? What did you do to fix it? Any help would be appreciated.

Same tranny in my Aztek. It required a rebuild. I had the solenoid go bad, but then that caused some of the gears to start wearing. Get it to a shop quick. It could be a computer/wiring issue, or it could be the tranny internals. If they say it needs to be rebuilt, ask them to explain why. I had a tranny computer go bad before, and the tranny was good.

BTW, did you check the fluid in the tranny? level ok? color of fluid?

It's a car I'm looking to buy. 188,000 miles. Trans was serviced and about a month later it started having problems. The fluid it toasty and I was figuring on a used tranny, just wanted to make sure it wasn't a computer issue that would affect the replacement tranny.

If it's the pressure solenoid, it will be a PAIN to replace. I just did one on my wife's 2007 G6.

If the fluid is bad, then I would say the tranny is the problem.

Hopefully the car is cheap as it will cost some money to replace the tranny, unless you do it yourself. Then, you don't know if the used tranny is any good. I had to have mine rebuilt before 60K.
