For me it would have been the 1962 Vette project in the Thrifty Nickle (1976) for $250; my neighbor's 69 GTO for $900 (1976), and another neighbor's '69 427 Vette (electrical issues) for $4,000 (1989).

Passed on a DeLorean in the mid 80's (can't remember the price) and an 86 Porsche 944 Turbo in excellent condition with blown engine for $500 in the late 90's.

69 camaro rs/ss black with black interer 4 speed only thing it had a 350 instead of the 327 it also had the ss big block hood. The guy had the 15" vette rally wheels on it not the stock 14", it was sharp but I went with a 76 T/A I'm a dum ass. Both were asking 3000 back in 85.

1978 malibu 2 door. Had a little v6 and had been sitting in the grass for a few years. I never approached the owner and one day watched it get towed away to the scrap yard. No body rust not sure of underside. Was an ugly dark brown with black interior.

1992 Acura NSX last month. Car lot had it for 22k and it slowly dropped to 15k. Had 107,000 miles on it with an automatic (YUCK) but it was in perfect shape, all services done and recorded by the dealer. They offered me 4000 in trade on my Volvo. I backed out (wife said no) just before signing my name, and a wholesaler picked it up for 13,500. I'm still pissed about it

In 1984, I got first dibbs on brother-in-laws 1968 Shelby Cobra GT350 with 40,000 original miles for $8,000. He had been killed in a farm related accident. He was single and worked four jobs to support his car collecting habit. He had one hell of a collection of cars and high performance Mopar parts. The only thing left in the family collection is the 57 Vette and 72 Dodge Superbee.

Newly married, living in a town house, and a new 84 Fiero. Just didn't want to take it on at that time. Man I loved that car.

'72 Trans Am, Lucerne Blue, 4-speed. $5000 in the late 80's.
I couldn't get the scratch together. I did later buy a '72 TA, white, automatic, but I still hate I missed out on the Lucy 4-speed.

RS/SS as a shell can pull in the $30K now as well..

As for me A local yard I used to frequent had a Ferrari 308 without an engine that had been there sitting for years.. I was going to buy it as my senior project and put an LT1 or something along those lines in it but my teacher dident want something of that caliber sitting in our shop for the rest of my class mates to screw with.. the yard owner was going to sell it to me for i beleave was $2000 as well... It was a bucket but had it where it counted..

I know a guy who looked long and hard for a nice one, ended up paying 25K for a low mileage black NSX.
