We got a 2001 Maxima for my girlfriend to cruise around and keep me from driving my truck and it has a couple issues I hope will be an easy fix. I tried to join a Nissan forum this morning and have yet to get the activation email so I can post there. I know this is probably the best forum to help me anyway, so I dont care if they dont let me in !
I know nothing about Nissans, so please include any details you can.
The "TCS OFF" and "SLIP" indicator stay on and by grounding pin 9 on the DLC it gave me code 87 flashing the SLIP indicator. This code i guess puts the engine in some kind of limp mode. I havent figured out the trick to read engine codes yet, but the SES light is also on, and flashes smetimes when driving. Most of what I have found online says its probably a ABS sensor problem, but they also got thecodes for which sensor was bad when grounding the DLC, I didnt. Maybe I didthetest wrong because they said the ABS light flashed, My SLIP light flashed instead.
Where do I go from here to get this fixed?
TIA

I'm assuming you know the TCS is Traction Control System which I assume would work in conjunction to the ABS sensors on your wheels. Your title says TCC. Either way, I don't know anything about Nissans except their parts will probably cost you more than domestic manufacturer's parts. I'd guess that it's a wheel sensor, but your best bet is to continue to search the internet as you're not likely to be the only one who has posted about this issue.

I have never trusted the flash codes on those cars, personal reasons - but anyways you ground the pink/black wire on the DLC, turn the key on and do NOT touch the brake pedal or start the engine. I've seen people burn the module trying to pull them. So be careful in that respect. The SES light flashing while driving generally indicates an engine misfire, and will set a code for the cylinder not working right. I'd get it looked at if that is the case - a misfire let go for too long will destroy the catalytic converter. Now that I think about it there are a couple SES codes that will set the TCS and Slip lights on. One is the dreaded P1320 code! Get the SES codes read - may not even have an issue with the ABS/Trac system. Might be best to take it to someone who knows Nissan's very well and let them diagnose it.

I checked ABS flash codes and only got 87,which I guess is fail safe mode. I havent been able to flash the engine codes, which involves turning the key, pressing the gas 5 times , waiting then holding it to the floor. Guess I cant count right because it hasnt worked ! lol !! Everything I find on this subject says its a abs sensor, but theyall havethe ABS light on and I dont. I finally got in to the NissanHelp forum, but nobody has responded to me.

Take the car to Autozone, it is OBD2, and they should pull the engine codes for free. I am willing to bet it has a misfire of ignition coil code stored, which is also turning on the TCS and Slip lights, but not the ABS. Wish you were closer - I'd plug my genesys into it and have it figured out in a few minutes.
Other thing to try, if you haven't already, unplug the battery for a few minutes to see if it will clear the codes. Don't forget the idle relearn once the battery is reconnected! and see how long it takes for the lights to come back on/which ones will come on first, if possible.[This message has been edited by GreenPlatypus (edited 10-20-2012).]

I was told that it has a misfire on cyl 6 code when I got it....that will mess with the TCS ?

Get it scanned, but most likely that would be P0306, which is typically fuel or ignition related (spark plug, wire, injector, etc.) and shouldn't have anything to do with the traction control system. The flashing check engine light is another sign of a misfire, probably on that cylinder.
See if there is a fuse for the TCS. SLIP would also be related to the TCS. Make sure the wheel speed sensors are plugged in.
Get the codes read!

Yes, depending on the stored code, especially if it is a code for that ignition coil. If it is just P0306, not likely. Really need to get the codes read.

Just got back from autozone, codes 0306, and 1320. Stopped in at wal-mart too. When we stated up to headhome, only the SES light was on, no TCC OFF or SLIP lights the whole way home.
