1990 Eagle Talon TSI (Page 1/5)

Hi all,

I found a 1990 Eagle Talon TSI in great shape with only 60k miles. I had a 90 Laser RS Turbo, and I've regretted getting rid of it since I sold it in 97. I'm eager to pick up another Turbo DSM.

My question(s): What should I look for in these cars? Meaning, what are some of the known issues? I bought my Plymouth Laser on February 21st 1990, put 77k on it in 7 years, and never had an issue, only great times (only lost 1 stop light drag in 7 years)

This car is in beautiful shape, inside and out. Stored winters, interior looks new. I'm more concerned about mechanical issues. Any common problems with these cars? I haven't had a chance to drive it yet, hopefully I will this weekend.

I plan on using this as my daily driver, winters included. My Laser was FWD, I drove it through some miserable Michigan winters, and it handled beautifully. I assume the AWD will be even better.

Any thoughts, suggestions, tips, etc, is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Nice! Always wanted one of those. The DSM community is almost as active as the Fiero community, there's lots of info out there. The guy I bought my Fiero from used the money to buy a 90ish Talon TSI, the timing belt promptly broke, and he had to rebuild the engine.

I sure miss my 1990 Laser RS Turbo......

The wife already gave me the go-ahead if I want it......I'm still in shock. She knows how much I loved that car.....I've wanted it back for 15 years.

I'll look into getting the timing belt replaced, assuming it hasn't been done yet. Haven't seen the car personally, driving across state Saturday to check it out.

Anything else I should look for? Thanks for the tip and the website!!

Not something you can LOOK for, but Ive heard of crank walk being an issue with these cars. Timing belt has been a main one though. Parts are def. cheap and plentiful though. My .02 cents

I once saw a road test on a new one, and they curbed it a bit hard knocking the front end out a little. Three or 4 pro alignments later they never did get it back right. Apparently very touchy, you might want to pass if it pulls a little and "just needs an alignment". Might be like the old "just needs a tune-up".

With only 60k miles on it you know it was kept stock no mods. As far as crank walk that is only an issue with the 7 bolt engines (95-99 engines) the 90-94 are called 6 bolts and are tougher then the 7 bolts. Sounds like a great car your getting if you have any question about it i've had several of them and have built 2 ten second Evo's.

I had a 91 Eclipse. Close to the same car.
Great vehicle! I had no complaints with it.
