Anyone here got a Tracker or Sidekick or X-90 you would sell? (Page 1/1) |

Wife wouldn't allow the $5,500 Miata I wanted (it's her money) so I'm looking for something that might sell for less than that, and cost less to operate than my Dakota that gets 15 mpg.
It would have to be running and not need much in order to be a DD (20 miles per day), and yes the A/C must work.
Even then, I don't know if I can talk my wife into it.

Is there anything wrong with your current vehicle? You are looking to save a few bucks on gas, but have you actually calculated out the cost to drive the current vehicle vs the gas savings with the new vehicle, then factor in the cost of the new vehicle, including price and insurance? Just asking the question.
For example... 15MPG and 40 mile round trip... 2.7 gallons. 30MPG would be 1.3 gallons. So.. per day, you would be saving ~$5 a day... and about $1200 a year (52 weeks at 5 days a week).
So... if the insurance is the same, and you bought a $5K vehicle, you won't see a net savings increase until 4 years of ownership.
Again... just looking at the math.... if you want a new vehicle for fun... well, then that is a good reason also

That's why I keep coming back here, because you guys keep my head on straight. Holy cow, you're right! Except the 20 miles I mentioned was the round trip per day, so what you're saying is even doubly true.
Geez.
Nevermind! And thanks!

Sometimes it is nice just to have a different car, but as for MPG vs costs, sometimes a newer vehicle isn't as good on paper. Sorry

FWIW, I had a 97 Tracker with the 16v engine and 5-speed. I averaged 26 mpg

I had a 99 Tracker. The maintenance alone is a good reason to BUY one! That’s right! They are cheap to operate! New brakes on all 4 corners for under $200. There are a tone of them in the salvage yards for parts. Changing the engine and trans is super easy! And a new engine and trans (together) are often under $500! They are very basic and have a REAL 4X4 setup. They are fun and go everywhere. Here is a picture of me and my old Tracker.
Just look out for rust on the floors… but in FLA, that’s probably not a problem. [This message has been edited by Purple86GT (edited 01-23-2013).]

I would personally stay away from an X-90. A girl I know owned two of them, one a former Red Bull car (still had the built-in cooler) and the other modified with a color change paint job. She had a tremendous amount of issues with both of them. When she had to do some body and mechanical repair on the second one - the color changing one - she ha d some of the worst time sourcing used body parts since they're so difficult to come by. To top it off, their getting up there in price - some above that $5.5k figure you had for the Miata.

I have a Suzuki Samurai, that is awesome. It would not be great for what you want to do with it, but a tracker sidekick would do good.
Parts are available for them, you just have to know where to look. Suzuki off-roaders have a huge cult following.
