Hey all, I have an opportunity to get a Chrysler 600 sedan made in 1986. I haven't pulled much from the web yet. I think it has a 2,2 4cyl with an automatic. I am trying to get enough info to make an informed decision. I am told it was kept up...The price is reasonable, the car is in good condition and it only has 55k mile. Point me in the right direction please. Any opinions?
Thanks ~Zep

I hope it's a VERY good price. Just the same, I had a Dodge mini van with the 2.2L engine in it. Behind the 5 speed, it was peppy enough and actually fairly agile. I can't remember the last time I saw a 600.

I would double check, but that might have a Mitsubishi motor. I knew someone with an '83 dodge 400 and my dad had a K-car for a short period of time. Both were fine cars, engine wise. Not fast, but functional.

Mitsubishi motor would be fine if I can still access parts if need be. It will be a daily shop around town car. Economy and ok looks. If it is mechanical I can usually fix it. The body work stuff is not my forte. I am advised it was well and garage kept. Besides there is a small part of me that likes the "gee I haven't seen one of those around in ages" comments. Thanks ~Zep I need to get the vin in a couple of weeks so I can track down the engine and the options. I hear some cars had turbos???

The 2.2 would be the standard Chrysler motor. The Mitsubishi would have been a 2.6 and offered as the upgrade (but if my memory serves me right it amount to single digit improvements in HP and torque). I'm not sure if it was offered in the 600.

Right now without the vin I expect it is a 2.2 with a throttle-body injection. Trying to narrow it down more but I hope it is not a turbo. Also looking up alternators.
Thanks for any advice! ~Zep

The Mitsubishi motor was not in the 600.
The turbo 2.2 could be made into monsters. I had several Daytonas right out of highschool. My take: The head is easily warped with just the slightest amount of heat. Keep the cooling system up to par. The turbos are very trustworthy if ran correctly. Burnt oil around the bottom of the turbo means future repairs. Always allow the car to idle for at least 30 seconds prior to shutting it off. This lets fresh, cooler oil to circulate around the turbo. The transmission are very fragile.
All of this information is 20 plus years old, so your experience may vary.
Good luck
