95 Grand Am 2.3 Quad 4 (Page 1/1)

Hey I know some Fierians (Furians? Haha) on here are familiar with the Quad 4 engine. As mounted in a FWD vehicle, there is a black plastic box on the top, forward side of the engine. I think it has something to do with the PCV system, and one of the hoses on it is broken and it appears to be a rubber over metal hose. It's blowing oil vapor out, and while I like the smell of oil and fuel in my garage, I don't like it in my car. Does anyone know what this box is, and how to replace it? Thanks guys!

It's a vapor/oil separator, that engine doesn't have a pcv valve. Back in the day, that box was available from GM. I would start there, the dealership should have a parts diagram of the system and be able to tell you what, if anything is still available. You may end up having to make a universal hose work. Google " quad 4 vapor separator", there is a lot of discussion on this part/system.

You might try Ebay.

Thanks fellas. I did look around some more and found about that setup. It looks like the part that's actually broken is the elbow on top, the oil vapor heater hose. I imagine this is gonna be a hard part to find. It's supposed to prevent the vapor going into the crankcase from icing up. I wonder if it's really needed, if I could replace it with a regular hose? If anyone has input, I'd appreciate it. Meanwhile, back to alldata and google I go... :/
