Hey Fiero world, I'm trying out this new topic thread for other cars and thought this was a good place to start my questioning.
Back in October I purchased a 1999 Jeep Cherokee sport 5spd with 168,000 miles on it. The engine had some problems with it to begin with so I was expecting something to happen in the next month or so. Sure enough at 171,000 miles the engine ceased to run...very odd for the 4.0 6 cylinder.
My question here is this: Are there any differences between the Cherokee 4.0s over the years? I know the 99' had some head work done to it and the possibility of bolts not lining up. My objective is to swap a new or used 4.0 into my current XJ so I can keep it.
It seems like a simple operation but I feel there are some hidden obstacles behind it. If you guys have any thoughts please don't hesitate to share.

ALLpar.com has a lot of information on all chryco products and has information on the "AMC" 6 (what this motor is in the family of)
http://www.allpar.com/mopar/40.html
Its inclusive info, but not totally complete. I am sure something could be added, but its a good start.
Have you thought about rebuilding the engine in it?

I would think the junkyard would be able to tell you this, but if not, maybe look at engine rebuilder websites like Jasper or??
