I have a 95 dodge ram 1500. At 365k miles the motor finally took a crap. Well I removed the the magnum 318 and installed a 360 premagnum hd la motor converted to carbureted out of a 92 3500 one ton van with a 518 transmission. Coupled with a 355 tracklock 8.75 axle. Man talking about a torque monster. I can pull 15k lb at 70mph 16 mpg. A buddy of mine has a Ford diesel and has a hard time keeping up. Lol. Especially that I'm not a Ford fan.

Pretty cool! At least the 318 can go 365k in the first place.

Is it safe to pull 15k worth of weight with a 1500 truck?
The other stats seem impressive, especially the 16mpg.

hmmmm
I had a 87 RamCharger with a 318 2bbl that I replaced with a 360 4bbl and it wouldn't pull a greased string out of a cat's patoot.
And it got 8mpg.
You must be some sort of wizard.

Final drive gearing makes a huge difference with both towing and mpg, just maybe not at the same time.

Pulling 15k May not be the safest thing but in my neck of the woods people to broke to buy a 3500 series truck. So we build one. Lol. My plans are to box the frame and build a larger and stronger leaf stack. Also a brake upgrade. The ds chassis ram (2003 & up) has a nice brake set-up that will work great on my 95 with few alterations.
