94' Volvo 850 Series (Page 1/1)

Okay, trying to help out a friend. He has a 1994 Volvo 850 series; he can not get it to start.
He has spark, he has fuel, but will not start. He has replaced the starter. It has been sitting in garage since last november.
He has tried a few times to get it running, but to no avail. From what I have researched on the web; sounds like the 850 series is
quite the piece of work.

Anyways, any ideas to get it going? It doesn't even like starter fluid I am guessing some of the hydraulic lifters are hydro locked with some valves hung open.
I need to go over & check it out for myself & see what he has tried. So, post your ideas & I will return to the depths of the web.

Thanks...

Need more details.
Does it crank?
How does he know he has spark? fuel?

I'll assume no crank because he replaced the starter. Does he have power to the starter?

I always run into IAC / ICV issues.

There are three things that make engines run...fuel, spark, compression. It seems like you have ruled out two of the three and suspect thee third. At this point I would get a comprsion tester to see if it is the lifters.

listen to it when you crank it, does it sound normal when it does crank or does it sound like the valves are not opening?

The timing belt may be broken or skipped a tooth.
