Chevy Truck Parking brake light? (Page 1/1)

On my 2002 Chevy Avalanche: I just replaced my parking brake shoes three days ago (and about 100 miles). There are NO lights when driving or using the brake pedal. No leaks, fluid level is full, etc. When I apply the parking brake (which holds well) the brake light flashes.

What might cause the light to flash like this? Again, it seems separate from the braking operation and limited to just the application of the brake pedal.

Thanks for your help!

A bump to add: I had the rear shoes replaced not just adjusted. The light was not flashing until roughly 100 miles later (prior to that the light just came on and stayed on when the parking brake was set). I called the shop and he said, "it is supposed to flash." I asked why it did not do this before or even immediately after his shop did the work or why non of my friends/family with similar years flashed. He did not know.

Did you check to see if the parking brake is fully retracting (in the cab)? Fluid level correct (check again?)? Do you have an owners manual?

The brake, in the cab, is fully retracting (the light is only on when the pedal is depressed), fluid level is perfect, no owners manual. Ive SEARCHED the web with no help.

Thanks for any help!

Talked with a tech at work, he says that the light will flash when the brake is applied and the car is in gear. Maybe something is out of adjustment, cable?

not sure if this helps.... from the owner's manual

"Parking Brake
To set the parking brake, hold the regular brake pedal
down with your right foot. Push down the parking brake
pedal with your left foot.
If the ignition is on, the brake system warning light will
flash. A chime will activate when the parking brake is
applied and the vehicle is moved at least 3 mph (5 km/h)
for at least three seconds.
To release the parking brake, hold the regular brake
pedal down. Pull the bottom edge of the lever, located
above the parking brake pedal, marked BRAKE
RELEASE, to release the parking brake.
If the ignition is on when the parking brake is released,
the brake system warning light will go off."
