Lowering a 96-97 S-10 (Page 1/1)
DanDamage AUG 29, 08:53 AM
I know the back has the "old school" suspension , the front has springs. What would be the best least damaging way to lower it just a bitt? My s10 is the most basic model but I notice it sits MUCH higher than most every other s10 Ive ever seen despite the heavy 4.3 weighing it down.

Suggestions?

I dont want lowrider height, I want like standard sedan ride height.

The factory uses short springs in the front and differently arched (I think) springs in the rear, on their factory lowered trucks. (ZQ8 and Xtreme)
I lowered my old 92 using 2" drop spindles, and 2" blocks in the back. Worked just as well.

My ZQ8 Sonoma also came with fat sway bars, Bilstein shocks and a fast ratio steering box.
I thought it handled like a sports car. My wife said it rode like a ground slide.

YMMV.

Edit - The suspensions, at least the 2WD versions, are pretty much the same from 82-03.

Pretty much what Raydar said. Spindles and small blocks in the back or suspension components from a sport model that sat lower. Other than that there is the cheap out of cutting the front springs and pulling leafs from the rear. I pulled leafs on my old Nissan (I think it had 5 and I pulled 2 of them) along with 3" blocks so it would almost touch the ground when I let the air out of the shocks (the third member sat about 1/2" off the ground with air out).

While you have the suspension apart to lower it, go to the local pull-a-part and grab the front spindle assemblies from a '98 up Blazer. They have much better brakes- 2 piston calipers, sealed hub bearings with hat rotors and the same ABS connections as the S10. I have a set for my truck but just have not got around to installing them.

Thanks for that!
I'm sort of looking for another S10. Lowering is going to be one of the first orders of business.

I'm thinking about lowering mine too. I may have to pick up that kit off of Ebay.
