Ford/Microsoft SYNC & 2013 Ford Taurus Rant (Page 1/1)

Just had to drive a 2013 Taurus 250 miles across the state. Much like the Windows 8 operating system, Microsoft should be ashamed and embarrassed to have let this product out the door. The touchscreen is VERY difficult to get a press to register. After SYNCing a phone, it doesn't stream music about 2/3 times you start the car, it just goes to FM radio. If you select 'bluetooth streaming', it selects it on the screen, but keeps playing radio! If you go to climate controls or maps and then go back to music, it SOMETIMES does what you tell it to do. Answer incoming calls? NOPE! You can't hear the person on the other line, and they can't hear you. Absolutely no excuse for this to not be compatible with an iPhone.

As far as the Taurus itself: much like the older 3rd and 4th gen models, the only good thing about it is the horsepower, if you have the higher output engine. The outward visibility is worse than a convertible. The blindspots are HUGE. By far the worst part of the car is the turn signal lever. They seem to have eliminated every mechanical portion of the turn signal assembly in the column, and gone completely digital. It's hard to describe how terrible it is, you have to experience it. The steering wheel controls are also really bad rocker switches. The throttle by wire is just as bad as other cars with this. Interior materials and fit and finish are like something I'd expect on a $10,000 car, not a $35,000 car. Sweating my ass off in the uncomfortable pleather seats, even with the climate controls set to 70.

I guess there was one other good thing: very little road noise, they must have used a lot of sound deadening.

2013 Taurus: 2 out of 10.

I will say this, Hyundai's phone and voice command system is bay far the best I have ever experienced, only issue I'm having right now is the Bluetooth streaming and having to into my phone to start it, but its a problem with my phone not the car.

I actually like the turn signal stalk on the new Fords... And I have several vehicles with throttle-by-wire - my Mazda, my motorcycle, and maybe the Crown Vic (can't remember at the moment). No real complaints about it on my end.

The sweaty ass thing is unpleasant, though.

Sync and MyFord Touch are different. Which one are you talking about. MFT has a reputation for being bad, but I've never heard anything but good things about Sync. I love it in our '13 Escape.

Definitely Microsoft Sync. Definitely sucks. Drove a 2008 Cadillac CTS4 back downstate, that stereo system worked almost flawlessly, and the touchscreen on that works 4/5 times, instead of the Ford's typical 1/3. The GPS on both is horrible compared to Garmin or Google maps on a phone.
