I recently bought a low miles Pontiac Grand Prix with a 3800 garden variety engine. The PO put in an Alpine DIN radio and a Kicker woofer in the trunk. The only good thing about it is the sound of Zeppelin playing "Good Times, Bad Times." The Alpine is a POS and I found a factory radio that I want to put in it and take out the Kicker as well. I found the RPO code for my radio and found the replacement radio on ebay and the dealer said they can unlock it.
My question is how difficult is the usual uninstall? I found a site that explains how to take off the bezel and get to the radio but nothing about how the Kicker gets its power (I assume under the floor mats) and the audio from the Alpine. I am recovering from serious back surgery and five weeks in hospital and rehab so I can't get under the dash. My experience with repairing my wife's TrailBlazer's instrument panel showed me how easy it is to get into the dash so I have no fear or trepidation about the uninstall/reinstall but if I have to get under the dash, I may have to wait until I fully recover or pay an installer to do it..
I am also a ham radio operator( WB5GSA) and I want to install an HF rig and wonder if anyone has experience with this type of install in this kind of car? I have a Kenwood that will easily fit in the dash but I want to remote it under the passenger seat and put the detachable faceplate in the dash.
I will want to sell the Alpine and Kicker but what is a fair price? The PO showed me a receipt for $600 but that included installation.

Depends what year the Grand Prix is. Up until 2000 or so, you just have to be sure you don't buy a theft locked radio. After that, it gets more complicated, with a lot of cars having stereos combined with the BCM. A good junkyard or a site like replacementradios.com will probably have what you need.

Thanks for your help. The Grand Prix is a 2008 in great condition and I am fully aware of the problems with the later model radios and the BCMs!!! The radio I am looking at buying is from a 2007 Grand Prix and is the identical radio that originally came with the car. The ebay seller will provide the VIN# from the donor car as well and will refund my money or give me another radio if there are problems with the one I buy. I have a good 2000 Pontiac radio I meant to put into my Fiero but after opening it, I decided it was another POS and my 1988 Buick radio was much better. I repaired a lot of factory and aftermarket audio equipment for a large, now bankrupt national retailer so I am very opinionated about factory and aftermarket equipment.
When I am fully healed, I will have no problems crawling under dashes, etc but now, I can't do much more than watch others work. I wear a back brace to keep my spine straight so the fusion and widespread staph infections can heal.

Check eBay completed listings for what a radio comparable to yours went for. If you can find say 3 then you have your price.
