My son's tracer broke down and need to move it . Has automatic transmission, how far can it be moved before it hurts the tansmission ?

just lift up the front and put it on a dolly and mileage will not be a concern.

Dolly is definitely preferable. The exact guidelines for flat towing an automatic will vary from transmission to transmission, but generally speaking it's less distance than speed. Going fast will kill most automatics very quickly since the wheels are spinning but the pump is not. You can cook the fluid and wreck the transmission. Broadly speaking, you want the transmission in neutral and not exceed 25mph. Some may be a little lower or a little higher, but 25mph is reasonably safe. Be aware that some cars require you to do unexpected things, like remove fuses or mechanically link the engine to transmission. I'd expect an Escort to be relatively primitive and not require such precautions.
