Instrument cluster and BCM question (Page 1/1)

Posting here because the guys at the Redline forum haven't been too quick getting back to me.

In my 04 Ion Redline I attempted a mod and ended up screwing up my tach and coolant gauge. Tried calling a place that rebuilds clusters, they said they can't rebuild my model and said only option is to swap it. I found one on Ebay and it's on its way. However, I have read with other cluster swaps that people have done that the odometer is stored in the BCM and displays on the cluster, but the cluster records its last odo reading and VIN from the BCM. When folks have swapped, they've had various issues such as the gauges working but the ODO stopping.

Does anybody know if this is something that can be handled at home, or must it go to the dealer to be flashed when swapping? I'd like to keep actual mileage on the car for selling purposes.

unfortunately, you will have to have it programmed at the dealer, unless you know someone with a tech 2. If you had purchased/swapped it from the rebuilder then you could have had them program the necessary info.

on my 2001 aztek, I changed BCMs and the odo was not impacted at all. The only thing that didn't work was the A/C (and maybe the keyless, but I can't remember). I had the dealer program it for $30 and everything worked fine.
