Guys,
The Cavi Z24 I have has given me a fit to the point of me stuffing it into storage for the winter. The car developed a real bad miss and loss of power. Now mind you that I've been working on 2.8's for some time but I never ran into this issue.
When I first looked into the problem I pulled the top end off and found that the intake rocker on number one cylinder had the nut back off and the rocker slid off of the valve. I was all happy that it was and easy fix. My excitement and joy turned into anger and frustration.
I put the rocker back in place and torqued down the nut. All fat dumb and happy put it all together and took her for a spin. Car ran better but still not right. Still felt like it had a miss.
I've replaced the following:
Rockers - Comp Cams magnum roller tip rockers Push rods Lifters Fuel injectors Checked all vacuume lines 50 times over
I have to tear the upper intake off every time I want to get to the vale train. Done it about 5 times.
Car has no codes. And mind you unlike our V6's the Z-24 has aluminum heads.
I have tried everything I can think of. Tried a compression test but the number one cylinder is a bear to get to with a compression tester. My findings were no or low compression on #1.
My question is - Could this be the cause of a cracked valve seat??
Thinking logically I feel that when the nut was backing off the rocker stud, it would give the valve enough play in the valve train to continually smack the valve seat. I'm thinking that this may have caused the valve seat to fail and not seal thus looking compression on that cylinder.
Just looking for a sanity check as I'm going to pull that car back into the garage over the winter and want to fix the issue to get her ready for spring/summer.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks!!

Seems to me if you have low or no compression on cylinder 1, you should pull the head on that bank and check that cylinder. Cracked or warped head, cracked or burned valve seat, blown head gasket, scored cylinder or blown rings, I mean there are several things that could cause loss of compression. I'd be checking those to see which one I am looking at needing to fix. If it's a head related problem, that's not so bad. If it's block related, ugh.

Thanks. I do need to mention that the car ran fantastic and only has A little over 90000 on the clock. I'm going to get some yard Heads reworked before intestinal the top off again. Heads reworked and ready to go before I tear into it again.

With little to no compression on cyl 1 a miss would be expected as that cyl won't fire correctly. I really think pulling that head is what your going to have to do. The only other thing would be sending an inspection camera in through the spark plug hole and looking. But even with that, if you can see the problem you will still end up pulling the head. It just might give you a better idea of what you will find when you pull it.

have you changed the oil? Drain into a fine screen and check for shavings? I know gm has had issues with cam lobes on some of the v6 engines.
