I was wondering if its ever been done. I know that Earlbarnes from Real Fiero Tech was going to do it, but it looks like he never really started. He said that, based on his measurements, it would actually fit. My dad and I recently bought a 1999 Eclipse RS and on the way home Tuesday it slung a rod. I'm looking at doing a 3800 swap instead of getting another 420a or anything of the sort. It will be cheaper for me to just go out and buy a wrecked Buick than to even get a 420a block.
Anyway, I was wondering if anyone knew anything about it or could give me some advice. I would have gone to the DSM forums, but they despise any kind of RS modding and I know that the 3800 is a really popular motor with Fiero owners ((88 Formula here)). Any advice would help.

I honestly have no idea as to if it's been done, but if you do it please post up a thread on the build here . I would really like to get a 2nd gen Eclipse and that idea has crossed my mind. I have a Neon with the 420A in it and have done alot of work on it so I'm pretty familiar with that engine but it isn't by far my favorite engine to work on. My biggest concern with getting a Eclipse is the idea that I'd still be stuck with the 420A, unless I went to a turbo Eclipse and then I'd have to worry about the crank walk... Anyways, if you find out the info you need and actuall do this, I'm very interested.

First of all, I just have to say that if we were on the DSM forum then the first response would just say to sell the car and buy a GSX or GST. No joke, those guys seem to really hate any kind of engine swapping because the don't like fabrication or something. It's a totally different world compared to Pennock's. Anyway, if I do this swap I'll gladly put in up here and document it for you. If I swap I'm just going to keep the current 5 speed and make an adapter plate for it, and then later do a RWD conversion. It would also come out to weigh about the same as a Fiero with the swap.

Well, other cars doesn't get the traffic the Fiero related section does, but people still check it out to see what others are doing and if they can offer help. I have never been on the DSM forum but I can beleive what your saying. You see it a little here. Mostly when someone wants to do a unique (Honda engine) or less common (Northstar) swap you have a few 3800SC jock riders who can't seem to understand that not everyone wants to go really fast in a straight line. The majority of people here though? No, they will offer some constructive critisism about interfacing to different manufacturers electronics, having to fab up mounts on your own because no one is going to sell them since the swap is so rare or has never been done or point out the possible difficulties in finding axles or whatnot if your going to swap out the trans also. Not really a "don't do it" but a "if your going to start this do it with your eyes wide open" thing. With what your talking about the adapter plate will of course be unique and engine mounts, but as far as axles and such you won't have to worry about them unless you have to move the stock trans location to get it to fit. But yeah, people here are more interested in seeing it done rather than "4g63 or nothing" which makes the forum alot more fun to be on .
Edit: "3800SC jock riders", That was not to insult your choice of engine. I personally think the 3800 engines are awesome! They are damn near bulletproof so long as you maintain them, they put out good power and while others don't like the sound I really don't mind it. It's just that there really is a few people on this forum who must eat drink and sleep with their 3800. Honestly if I ever swapped a engine into my Fiero it would have been a 3800NA or a 4.9, which ever I was able to source for a decent price first. Both are pretty close hp/tq wise with one slightly higher on one side and the other slightly higher on the other. If I could swap a 3800NA into a Eclipse, I would be stoked.[This message has been edited by Khw (edited 11-22-2013).]

Go for it and post up the build thread here. It may be easier to mock up hybrid CV shafts than to get the extra length of a trans adapter plate to fit into a tight engine bay.

I seen an accord on another forum with a3800sc.. I think ur best bet is use a gm trans and only worry with axles... ------------------ 87GTseries 1 3800sc (7.597 @88.53 1.579 60ft) (series II swap in progress) 85GT Northstar/ 4t80e 86GT 3800 n/a My Build

I have heard of the intrepid motor being used in them and the 300m motor... Not far off power wise

The closest thing I've seen is an LN3 in a Conquest.
