2003 GM Aftermarket Stero? (Page 1/1)

I have a 2003 Hummer H2 and the factory head unit was having issues (cd would not eject and radio reception was poor). GM said that it was a bad head unit. I got a new Pioneer double din unit, a gmos-04 harness, an aswc-1 steering wheel control harness.

Wired them up best I could without the benefit of stereo wiring help (the unit came missing the manual). Seems like there are LOTS of unused wires. Anyone have pics or know of a good source where I can SEE where the wires should go between the two boxes and the head unit?

FOr what its worth, Ive wired well over 30-40 stereos over the years with no issues. I have not, however, wired one in order to keep steering wheel controls and onstar.

Google the head unit. See if you can find an installation manual or wiring diagram.
I wouldn't even attempt to guess.

I've been pretty successful doing that, in the past.

Thanks Raydar. I got it in and working, but the radio only gets reception when the key is off. More specifically, when I roll the key to the on position or actually start the truck, almost all static. When I turn the truck off (radio still on) it works perfectly. It did this with the old head unit as well.

My 00 Bonneville did the same kind of thing with the radio. However it only did that when I had the rear defroster on. Apparently it used the defroster grid as the antenna and opened the connection when the defroster was on so power didn't flow into the stereo when the defroster was on. Maybe one of the wires you don't have hooked up yet controls that if yours works like our Bonneville did? I'd look for that wiring diagram online and get everything hooked up to see what happens. I'd also check to make sure the defroster isn't on.

Everything is hooked up now, and it was with the factory unit as well. I will check out various buttons though, good thought. It has two roof mounted antennas: one is for the XM and the other is a short, foldable factory antenna.
