68 Triumph GT6 swap (Page 1/3)
jb1 JAN 13, 02:50 AM
I recently got offered a Triumph GT6 coupe and honestly do not know much about them at all , but had the idea of buying it and doing either a LS swap or a 3800 turbo swap both would be with 5sp..
Been leaning more towards the 3800(already have low mileage engine) but will have to get rid of all but the N* fiero to be able to afford to do it.
It would be with R200 diff. from a Infinity Q45 , and T5 trans from camaro.. all new wiring painless or similar..
any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated. Here is a link to one already been done but different rear end etc.

They're cool cars but I'll bet you'd have $40k in it once you did all that stuff from that website.

Oh yeah , not going to go all out like he did, I was thinking use the 3800sc I got and try to work out something with the m90 piping or even go 3800 turbo and a T5 trans.
To build like the one linked I would say to hit 40k would happen fast.

I knew a city cop years ago that put a 340 Buick engine in one for his little brother. SCARY car, but sweet ride. His car was an original 52 mgtd with a small block.

since I found this car and been looking at swaps for it t want to do the 3800sc and t55 swap. I'm going to look at the car next weekend and check it out for rust etc before I buy. but I will keep looking for a decent inexpensive gt6 if this one doesn't work out.
edited due to stupid phone ..

Better beef up that rear. It is a terribly weak link in the chain. My nephew has one. Kinda cool, rides like **** , handles good. Currently sitting with no reverse.

using the Q45 r200 diff. or might even do a narrowed ford 9". Ill decide which as I get into it.

that blue GT6 is an amazing car .don't the original cars have some kind of weird rear swing axle design ? every time i saw one a long time ago the rear wheels were tilted in at the top . i can see why the guy that built the blue car put in a straight axle .sounds like a great project .post some pics of the car did you pick it up yet ?

they had a leaf spring over the diff. swing arm setup .. I am going sat to look it over again but it is a project I am excited about... I will post pics when I start the build..

Long time ago.
I had seen some Spitfire swaps with 60 degree V6 engines English/Ford and chevy 2.8s.
Some of the areas later were getting into the GT6 and adding a Buick/Land Rover V8 but with extensive rear suspension work unless it was a GT6+ that had a different set up.
However ultimately, many were dumping the whole drive train and installing Toyota Supra drive train(including the rear suspension. The engines fit nicely.
The Toyota inline 3.0s can be made to give up insane HPs without weighing it down too much.
