A friend of mine has an Avalon that has about 145,000 miles on it,and you can't hear it run at idle my son-in-law has a Camry with over 225,000 miles on it's 4 cylinder, and you can't hear it run. They(Avalon)have a v6 that will, and does run forever. It gets good mileage and has very good power as well as a very luxurios interior.I don't want to get a new one (I can't stand the thought of a vehicle depriciating that much as you drive it away from the dealership). I have all the power I need in 2 Fieros ,one has a supercharged 3800 in an 88 GT and a turbocharged 383 Chevy in my 87 GT.I know Toyota makes good engines, but what about the rest of the car.I'm thinking of 2007 (5 speed trans.)or 2008 (6 speed trans) limited .I am looking for what may be my last car andI want to get it right. Thanks in advance if you can give any help.

I've spent many hours on the assembly line where they're built. One of the most reliable, well-engineered, well-built cars ever produced. Pretty much the perfect basic transportation sedan. Boring and slow, but excellent appliances.
The four cylinders are slow, but reliable. A 2009-2012 V6 would be the one to get.

I've always thought of the Avalon as Toyota's version of a Park Avenue... Boring but comfortable and reliable.
Hard to go wrong with that. I wouldn't get one but I'm not in the target market, either.
