I have the heads off and I'm about to order gaskets and a new head bolt kit. I noticed that the web site has the bolts in two different rows and the thread length on the bolts are different in each row. So the question is, Which bolts are outboard and which bolts are inboard? I've searched the internet and came up with nothing. I hate guessing so I thought I would tap the vast repository of knowledge and experience contained within the Fiero Forum.
For this project I am using a gasket sealant called Hylomar. Normally I never ever use anything on head gaskets. But, this car is on it's last legs and I'm willing to give it a shot. I'll let you know if it blows up or not. lol.

the shorter bolts are on the outboard side of the head and the longer ones inboard. There is no way to mix them up, the short bolts wont grab the threads in the block if put into the holes where the long bolts go. Be sure to follow the proper torque and rotation sequence. The bolts are designed to stretch, which why they can't be reused, and the rotation (in degrees) after the initial torque value is reached is how this is accomplished.

Thank you. They are saying 95 degrees after tourqing. I don't think I did that the first time. It did last 1 1/2 years though. lol. At least three of the cylenders were leaking because the carbon was steamed off of the piston surface. Aside from the crappy LIM design the engine is easier to reassemble than the Fiero 2.8. No valve lash adj. Money is low So for now I'm stopped untill I can buy head gaskets and bolts.
