VW AMAROK (Page 1/1)

As I am on temporary assignment in another country, I put a white VW Amarok on order. It is coming in July as I had to special order it. The drive train is a 2.0L 4 Cylinder Turbo Diesel, 8 speed Automatic with electric locking rear differential. It will not be a fast vehicle, but it should be a decent performer all around. It is replacing my 2011 SAAB 9-5 Aero. I will miss the SAAB A LOT but it was time for it to go as the roads where I currently live are far too rough for a sports sedan. I wanted to try this truck while I still had the chance since it is not for sale in the USA. Hope you like it!

Can you import it?

I could import the SAAB but it was a lease. You can get a very low mile last gen SAAB 9-5 in the USA for next to nothing so it would not make financial sense to import.

The Amarok cannot be imported. I have leased it as well. I have heard that VW is working on getting the Amarok approved for the US as it is the only market in the world that it is not sold and they are desperate to get a truck in the USA particularly now that truck sales are hot again.

When I get back though I may buy a new GMC Colorado. The Fiero will always be my fun car.

With the torque of the turbo diesel and the inevitably low gearing from an 8 speed it should at least be quick.

Sad vehicle then

It only has 180HP it is not going to win any races, nor will I be passing too many people. The manual transmission version gets 0-60 in 11 seconds. The 8 speeds should help it a bit but maybe to 10 seconds at best? It does have 310 Lb-Ft of torque so it should pull up every stump in the area if I needed it to.

The main reasons for me to get it are:
1.) It is not available in the USA so I wanted to own it before returning in a few years
2.) The roads here are terrible so driving a pick-up is more comfortable and more reliable
3.) The truck should be least likely to be stolen in this area. I was already carjacked once for a crappy Audi Q5, I don't want to repeat that again.
