3.8 Series I to 3.8 Series II SC swap? (Page 1/1)
kriswinner MAY 05, 08:09 PM
How much difficulty is there in swapping a Series I for a Series II 3.8L?
How much added room is needed for the SC?
Would there be concerns as far as the gauges?

I'm considering purchasing a 93 Pontiac Transport (dust buster style) that is in very good condition.
I'm wondering what I'm getting into with a potential engine swap.

Any advice?

Everything short of the supercharger will bolt right in. Use the oil filter adapter from the van. The wiring will be pretty much the same as a Fiero 3800SC swap..

Does the supercharger add much to the overall size under the hood?
I'm trying to avoid any major fabrication issues. For a relative rookie, am I better off avoiding the SC?

I used to own a 94 Transport with the 3.1L engine. I doubt there would be any clearance issues. I sure do miss that van (especially on long trips and when I have to move things that won't play well in the back of my S10).

I used to have a 2004 Montana. Not quite the same animal, but the same idea as far as fitting stuff in it.
Something about the plastic panels / spaceframe makes a Transport seem like a decent stablemate with the Fieros.

I saw some writeups about the Euro-spec versions of them that had manual transmissions. Wouldn't that be cool?

Am I missing something?

Because the Series II didnt come out until '98, so why would you buy a '93?
