Power sunroof motor location? (Page 1/1)

My sunroof is stuck in the open position on a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix. I can't seem to find much information on the location of the Power Sunroof motor location. Anybudy replace one of these on a GM vehicle? Where was the power motor located? Only information I could find, was possibly under the roof hump, where the power switches are located. Can you confirm that?

I don't know where it is on a 2000 but on a '96, it's an integral part of the sunroof assembly. If you remove the headliner, you should be able to see it. Mine was cable operated and got stuck in the open position. I thought I could push it back into place and ended up shattering it. I found one at the local boneyard 6 months later for around $100, removed the headliner and had it swapped out in a couple hours. Turns out, it had just gotten slightly crooked. I could have disconnected the cables, moved the glass slightly and reconnected the cables and it would have fixed it.

I don't know if any of this helps.

Thanks fo the info Monkeyman, Ill probubley pull the roof switch bezel just to see if I can see the motor. Looks like this might become a bigger job than I thought, so I might just silione it closed.

If it's like my old '96, it's more labor than anything else and it's definitely doable by your average, can't figure out which end of the screwdriver to use, mechanic. IIRC, the headliner is held in place more by trim pieces than anything else and, once that's removed, it's just a matter of unplugging it and removing a few bolts. I don't know if a 2000 is the same body style as the '96 so it could be different but all it takes to remove the headliner is time.

Update: I pressed the closed button on the sun roof and jently rapped on the roof with my palm....nothing, I continue...nothing...I continue rapidly....all of a sudden it starts to close wow! It works again! I guess I'll clean the tracks, for preventitive maitence (even though the tracks didn't have anything to do with it).... Yaaaa! It works again!
