The wife just got a really nice Crossfire. On short drive -less than a mile- the check engine lamp came on. She puled over and saw smoke -steam- and called me. I could not find anything wrong, no steam, no water in the oil or whatever? I let it idle for a good while and the engine temp stayed normal. A few drives round the block and error cleared itself. I'm thinking maybe the coolant system was not burped properly and it was a vapor lock that cleared itself? I'm going to get the error log read and see it that helps. Any other ideas?

Sure it was steam and not smoke? Check your valve covers for leaks and the exhaust manifolds / pipes for dark or black stains indicating something dripping.

Thanks for the reply They look clean, I just got a new Cide reader, hopefully it will pinpoint to the error. BTW I drove the car for almost an hour with mo problems.

Maybe the fan failed to kick on? Or, maybe a bad thermostat?

just keep in mind, the byproduct of that car is the Mercedes SLK meaning that car has about 400 minds of its own under the hood, I looked into one some time ago but was pushes away by the upkeep

what codes are in the engine computer? get them checked and soon. preferably from a mercedes dealer, they should know how; most chrysler/dodge dealers just send them to the dealer i work at anyway.
