I'm in the middle of replacing the dried up foam inside the heater box on my 1987 Corvette. It's interesting how two cars (Vette and 1988 Fiero) that were designed about the same time by the same company can be so different! I've had the dash assembly out of the Fiero several times and it is a 20 minute job. Pulling the entire heater box on the Fiero is not too bad of a job. It's taken me about 8 hours of work to get the dash and heater box out of the Corvette!! The biggest pain is dealing with the big wire harness that is behind the dash. It would have been a LOT easier if GM hadn't decided that the best place to install the plugs that connect the main harness to the door harnesses would be down inside the doors! This meant I had to nearly gut the doors in order to pull the wiring back into the car. On the Fiero, there are connectors right behind each kick panel, making it much easier! Anyone have a good source for the foam that lines the various doors inside the heater box? Mine is all crumbled and falling off........
