couldn't find a good Fiero locally, got an MR2 instead. (Page 1/1)

It is a 1987. Rust free. 191,000 miles. Runs and drives. Tires are rotted. Had a mouse or too living in it, one it hanging out of a hole in the muffler. A few easily repaired electrical issues and it starts and runs. Not as fun as a V6 Fiero. About as speedy as a 2.5 with the 4.10 4 speed, not as much torque but better gas mileage. Paint is tired. But it was a 1 owner meticulously cared for car. They rought it up from Abilene, Texas. Just need to replace the muffler and drive. New clutch and hydraulics. Suspension has been rebuilt. Need to check the timing belt, but it was done a few years ago then parked. Fuel tank was cleaned and coated with a new pump and sender. A/C doesn't work, yet. Other than that, a fun little car. Will put snow tires on it and park my Mini for the winter. The Mini looks huge compared to the Toyota.

Still a great car. The 4AGE engine is the best engine Toyota ever made, LOTS of mods available, lots of engine swaps possible with those cars, too. Whenever I looked at MR2's, they always cost 2-3X what a similar Fiero did.

The 1st gen MR2s interiors were sort of funky looking but they hold the road better than a Fiero (stock) and I think they're kinda cool looking. I've looked for a 1st gen Supercharged MR2 off and on for years. When I had the funds, I never could find one in good shape and when I did, I didn't have the funds.

A quick story....
A friend of mine had a Lotus Europa. Brought it over one day and asked if I wanted to drive it. After thinking about it for about a millisecond, I said, "Yeah!"
It made me realize what the expression "handles like a slot car" was really talking about.
Response was hair trigger. Changed lanes by moving the wheel about a quarter inch. But did it with precision. The only thing you could see if you looked out the side windows is what size tires the guy beside you had.

The first time I drove an MR2, in 1985, I got much the same sensations, with the exception of it having better visibility.
Probably the only reason I didn't buy it is because I was, at the time, driving a Chevy Monza with a 350, and just couldn't wrap my head around owning a 4 banger and being happy with it.

I've always liked them. The first gen even more than later versions.
Good luck with yours.

More pictures are coming. Need to finish putting the new tires on. Fix a few bulbs that are out. Reseal the passenger side tail light. Replace a loose ball joint. And fix the bent trailing arm that wasn't there when I looked at the car. New exhaust has been ordered. Need to get it cleaned up a bit. Maybe a good buff or polish. Doesn't handle like it is on rails yet, the completely original suspension is worn out. My short list of repairs, is getting longer.
