brake light switch failings (Page 1/1)

hi guys,
my wife's car is a 95 taurus. starting last year, the brake light switch would fail about every 4 months without any warning. one day fine, the next it won't shift out of park. simple enough swap with lifetime warranty from autozone, but what could cause this if it's not just bad made switches?
all bulbs are good, connectors are tight, but when i remove bad switch, the wires are hot. put new switch in and wires are fine even after holding brakes on for a minute.
any ideas what to check? i only have a cheap harbor freight volt meter.
thanks

check adjustment, the slide on and twist brake light switches ford uses/used suck.. friend of mine had an f350 dually and had to change the brake switch couple times.. but i would suggest go buy one from you local dealer and get a factory part not the cheap aftermarket replacements

thanks jb, i just wanted to be sure before i spent the money on a name brand one that there was nothing causing the switches to fail, and what to check for that.
there are no leaks in trunk area or frayed wires., in fact all panels and carpets are where they should be and car was never in accident or fender bender.
