C4 - Power distribution - No start (Page 1/1)

Need some help
Trying to trouble shoot a no start

1984 Corvette
Turn the switch and I don't get any dash lights. No fuel pump and no spark.
If I had a schematic of the power distribution to the column I would be able to trouble shoot this a little better.

Windows still roll up and down so some of the accessories work. I have power to the large red wire but I don't know about the other wires, orange - pink and the rest.
The red is the only one with 12v the others are dead
Its not a safety switch because the start will turn over.

I would just bypass the wires with a couple of switches if I had the wire diagram.

Thanks for looking
Jake

From this thread... http://www.smokinvette.com/...owthread.php?t=43769

Red is the main power running to the switch (hence why you have power there).
Yellow is for the starter.
Pink is the ignition. Presumably should have power when the switch is in the on position.
Orange is the accessory wire.

Hope that helps.

I'm thinking its the pink wire.
Just don't want to let the smoke out of anything
Thanks for the link

Either way, it sounds like your ignition switch has quit on you. Replace it, rather than screw around...?

Thats the final goal, just have to get it running for now until I can find one.
I wish that the Fiero column would fit as I like having the wiper controls on the column and not on the door.

Thanks

Got the car running and didn't cut any stock wires or break anything.
Now I just have to locate a good column and wheel and I am all set.
Got a line on one just haggling price.

I'm guessing good used replacement parts are both hard to find and not cheap?

First year of any car is hard to find, they fix things that are not backwards compatible. You can make them work but if you can find the right part its better to wait if you can.
After a few days of research it sounds like the switch is bad and I can fix that pretty easy but the rest of the column is shot as well so I just want to find and replace it all in one shot.

If you get one go for the 96 with low mileage as you can find. C5 would be a better car all round if you can find one of those.
I don't regret getting the car but it is what is is, 30 years old and will need work.

I picked up an '85 shell (no engine) today for a project. Should be interesting.

Thread discussing column swapping on the '84: http://www.corvetteforum.co...sed-in-84-vette.html
There's more such info out there, if you haven't already gone looking.
