Fixing FOB's (Page 1/1)

I learned a neat little trick from a Buick dealer when my wife's key fob's quit working. Pop it apart and put little pieces of foil tape over the buttons. Gave it a try and now both fobs have been working for the last month. Saved us $150. Odd that a dealer would tell her that rather than sell her new ones.

Fixed my TV remote the same way over a year ago. I like free fixes

Usually I just use rubbing alcohol to clean the circuit board and the rear of the buttons and they work fine. I do this once a year for my television remote.

I tried the cleaning first, but the metalic coating on the buttons seems to be what fails.

Good suggestion. I will have to try that with an old remote.
