wife's 2012 senators cruise control is stupid. (Page 1/1)

Auto correct strikes again. It's a 2012 sentra

I like the car and it gets great gas mileage for me however it's a different story if my wife drives it or you use cruise control. It's no mystery why it's gets bad mileage when my wife drives it but the cruise is worse than her driving. When I'm driving at 60mph the rpm stays around 1700 rpm, being super conservative I have been able to average 50 mpg highway but normal is 40-45 mpg. On a prefect smooth level road cruise will do the same however the slightest load from a hill will change the ratios in the cvt and it starts doing 2100 rpm. That wouldn't do so bad if it didn't stay that way until the cruise is turned off. I can get decent mileage if I constantly turn the cruise on and off resetting the rpm after every hill but if I just leave it on it will start to average 30-35 mpg.

First World problems, I know. It frustrates me that the car could be so much better with a small software change.

Have you taken it to a dealer to see if there is one? This doesn't sound like it's by design but rather by accident.

Hard to say... may be programmed that way to protect tranny, or engine.. or...??

Sorry I'll admit I clicked the thread because of the autocorrect title

Yeah I'll agree with your final sentiment. I would check with your dealer in regards to a software update or similar. Most all vehicles nowadays use separate electronics for cruise control. There may be an update or a diagnosis they can run as part of your routine service or even as a courtesy. It for sure wouldn't hurt you to just ask (least they can say is you'd have to pay).
