mazda 5 issues (Page 1/1)

on my 2007 Mazda 5, it stalls at stop lights when it is real cold. We thought it was water in the gas but several tanks of gas later it still is going on. It does not happen when the engine is warmed up. Could it be a fuel filter? Where is the fuel filter on a Mazda 5 with the 2.3 double overhead cam.? Secondly, what is the spark plug gap for this engine? Thanks in advance,
Jon

Your car does not use a serviceable fuel filter, they are inside the fuel tank. Spark plug gap is preset, and not easily checked/resized without damage to the fine wire. if you think you have an issue, it is recommended to just replace them. More and more modern cars are becoming less owner serviced. Just the way it is. First thing I would check is the throttle body for carbon build up. This requires 2 people. One to look at the throttle and clean it out as needed. And the other to step on the accelerator pedal with key on engine off. If you try to open the throttle blade by hand you can cause damage the electronic throttle body itself. Costly mistake, they are not cheap. Start there.

You might have the fuel pressure checked. As the vehicle is warmed, the tank pressure is increassed slightly, just enough to keep it going the remainder of the day.

intake gasket leak? vacuum leak? Just a thought. High idle when it starts up?
