To the best of my knowledge, my 88 Fiero GT still has the original pump.

The fuel pump on my 2002 Silverado lasted approx 180,000mi. It died just aobut two years ago in 2013. So age wise it lasted 11 years. The replacement el-cheapo recommened brand from Rockauto has lasted 40k so far with no issues.

Other than my Fiero, the only GM fuel pump I've had to replace lasted 250,000 miles. Current cars have 178,000 and 120,000 on their original pumps (Cobalt and Impala).
Fiero has been the exception since I replaced it once at 90,000 and again at 105,000 but in between I ran it empty a few times. Like, walk-home-and-get-the can empty. I'm sure that led to an early death!
Does that Grand Prix have an access panel in the trunk? Some W-bodies do. I had to get the pump out on our Impala to replace the sending unit and it was literally ten minutes to remove the pump from the car. It took longer to clean the dust off the top than anything else.

Yeah only in tank pumps I've had to replace were Fiero, and thats because people let them sit and rust/etc occured in the tank. Almost every other car I have owned was GM and fairly high mileage, but I couldnt tell you if someone replaced the FP before I bought it. [This message has been edited by 2.5 (edited 02-04-2015).]

I still have the original fuel pump on my 87 GT. My 88 had three installed, but that issue was a short in the wiring causing the fuel pump fuse to blow so the mechanic kept replacing the fuel pump, until another mechanic found the short.
Other than that, I have not replaced any fuel pumps in any car, but most of those cars were traded away around 90-100,000 miles or six to 8 years.

I ran some Marvel Mystery Oil in the tank of a car with a noisey fuel pump and it quieted it. If you are limping one along you could try that.

1994 Grand Prix, bought brand new. 221,000 miles on the original fuel pump, which is still working fine.
