I was looking at getting a newer car. Fell in love with the 07+ impalas. Looking at them more and more notice 07-2011 run motors based off the 60 degree motors. Isnt that the same as the dreaded 3400. Did these newer motors suffer the same gasket wows as the earlier versions? Wondering if i should just hold out for a 2012 with the 3.6 dohc motor.
I need to do something rust is destroying my current car dont want to wait till the sub frame fails.

The 2007-up Impala has the LZ4 or LZE (flex fuel) 3.5 or (I think) the LZ9, 3.9.
I've got a 2010 G6 with the LZE 3.5. It's one of the favorite cars I've ever owned. I've only got a little over 50K on the odo, but it's been quite trouble free for the time that I've owned it.
The LZ4/LZE/LZ9 engines are 60 degree V6s that are loosely based on the 3400, but they seem to be a lot better. They have VVT, which helps with power and emissions. There is no EGR (well, at least not on mine.)
My 3.5 makes 221 HP. Maybe a bit more in the Impala, due to packaging.

I like the engine enough that I'm considering one for a Fiero swap.

That vintage of Impala was also available with the LS4 V8. I understand that there were some issues with the 4T65E trannies holding up, however.
My 3.5 runs through a 4T45E. Seems "marginal", but I haven't had any issues, yet.

Not sure about the engine, but as for the 3400, it is pretty darn strong, except for the intake/head gasket issue. I haven' had any mechanical issues on my 2001 3400, other than gaskets. 170K+ on the engine.
