88 Toyota 4runner to 89 engine/ecu swap ....HELP!! Toyota experts !!! (Page 1/1)

A friend had his 88 4runner here, he bought with a bad engine. He then got a 89 pickup that had been rolled with a good engine, running and driving. We put the engine and the ECU in the 88 only to find that toyota changed a lot of how it connects to the dash harness. Well we got most the gages, fuel pump and power working, and the engine is running. Have a new 02 and exhaust system, fuel and air filter. The problem is the engine hesitates and tries to die when you give it throttle when its cold, then as it warms up it runs better, but once it gets to operating temp the idle goes to hell and it will stall out when you let off the gas, some times it will catch itself and keep running. Its giving codes for the MAF, TPS and O2 and we cant get the codes to clear, even with the battery disconnected for 3 days. As soon as we hook up the battery and check codes without ever starting the engine the codes remain. This is also the 2nd ECU with the same results.

Hope someone can give me a simple answer that makes me feel dumb, I want to get my Fiero project going soon !!
