I'm getting another car as a daily driver and was curious what you all thought about the engine. its a 4 bolt main 350 small, wild cam moderate duration high lift, Edelbrock heads, Edelbrock performer carb, 1.6 rockers with stud girdles, and all that tied to a turbo 350 transmission. also it has a 3500 stall, would that be too much for a daily driver ignoring the horrible gas mileage that I'm in for.

If your daily driving is only 1/4mi trips that would be fine. However if your daily driving includes a lot of stop and go conditions your going to hate that engine.

to be honest it was built pretty much purely for the 1/4 but I went out to look at it and was really digging it, seems to do great idling at stops and everything. but I might hate the 100 mile drive home I have to do with it.

Other than the stall, if the cam can idle , why not?

what is the issue with the stall? don't really get what the stall converter does 2.5.

Stall speed is the highest an engine can rev without actually driving the transmission - but doesn't preclude the transmission from being driven at a lower RPM. Stall speed is really just a guideline, as actual, real world performance is affected by everything from engine output to rear axle ratio. Generally speaking, a too-high stall speed will make a car undriveable in traffic or possibly result in a lot of excess wear (too much slip, not enough go). Without knowing the specific characteristics of the engine and the car it's in, it's impossible to really know what to expect from any given torque converter. If you've driven the car and it seems ok, it probably is. [This message has been edited by thesameguy (edited 04-30-2015).]

its an 85 Monte Carlo, if the 3500 bugs me too much he's giving me the factory converter or I'll have a new one matched up with it. I didn't get to really take it for a drive (no mirrors, loud as hell exhaust, and he didn't have insurance) and only got to drive it around his house. deal breaker is when I go back to see it with money is another longer test drive. thanks 2.5, I actually read those already, transmissions are really interesting pieces of technology. I'm getting the Monte Carlo, just have to sell my Fiero first. thanks for your help with the Fiero but I'm just done messing with it.

One thing you will want to check is that the engine produces enough vacuum. Sometimes large cams and bigger rockers won't allow the creation of enough vacuum to run the brakes. Take it for drives and check how good the brakes are after idling and driving around town.
